In this paper, our results show that the generalised LT protocol delivers the highest secret key rate under all the experimental conditions considered. On the basis of the results obtained, we demonstrate the impact of experimental imperfections on the key rate and show how to control them. In particular, we show that the secret key rate is higher under the assumption that optical devices are not considered in the calculation of the local oscillator power. Then, we show that the highest tolerable loss depends on the QBER and that this tolerable loss decreases for increasing QBERs. Also, we highlight that the key rate is higher when the decoy state is assumed to be optimised, i.e. for approximately equal powers between the two decoy states. We introduce the statistical fluctuations of the single-photon wave-packet into the key rate and show how these fluctuations depend on the QBER and the QBER-averaged number of photons used for the binary basis choice. We also show that these statistical fluctuations can be reduced by using the generalised LT protocol. Finally, in this paper we calculate the secret key rate for the scenario when the two sources are different and show how to increase the secret key rate, especially when the SPFs are more dominant in comparison to the THAs. 7211a4ac4a
